“You wanna fly, you got to give up the shit that weighs you down.”

Come to our writing sessions. It’s free!
Writers With Attitude is a creative writing workshop based in New York, NY. The workshop is free to the public with a reservation. We read works from a diverse array of authors, share ideas and give observations on each other’s writing. We aim to become more prolific and find our voice through various writing styles. We operate like a college writing workshop, without the boring professor. W.W.A is many things, but we are also not a lot of things. We are not a college course; you will not receive college credit. But, you will also pay no tuition or fee because the workshop is completely FREE. The workshop is open for anyone ages 18+. We focus on fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry and essays. We meet once a month on Sunday’s at Bowery Poetry Club from 2:30-5:00pm.
We are a workshop with experienced and first-time writers. What makes us unique is our openness to listen and write with anyone with a passion to tell a good story. Consistency is important in the workshop to grow as a writer, so we highly recommend good attendance to fully reap the benefits. Assignments are due each meeting, whether it’s reading a short story, article, or completing a writing prompt, though nothing is graded.
Each meeting is broken up into parts: First, we discuss the given text (short story, poem, article, sometimes artwork), then we have a brief intermission with refreshments. We come back and write based off of a writing prompt, and share our assignment due that day. Finally, we end with observations from our peers. For each meeting, we aim to give the writers as much feedback as possible to instill into their own writing. We host annual open mic nights to showcase the writers and their work, and at the end of the literary year, the best work from each writer will be selected for publication in our literary magazine, LUNA. The lit mag is compiled of poetry, short stories, creative non-fiction, essays, and art from the writer’s of the workshop alongside selected writers outside of the workshop. Aside from the lit mag, we also provide an online platform for writers to submit their work.
We are a safe space for all members. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, and gender. We understand writing is a personal form of art and we respect every member and their work as we would want our work to be respected. Whether you show for one meeting or all meetings, the care and nurture that is given to all members and their writing never goes unnoticed. If you’re looking for a place to laugh, converse, read and write freely— you’ve come to the right place.
Now that you know there is nothing to lose— let’s write!
